As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10. While PCs operating on Windows 10 will continue to function, Microsoft is no longer providing the free services that keep your device working properly and securely, including security updates and technical support.

What Are Your Options?
Microsoft has been encouraging users to migrate to Windows 11, but this presents challenges for some PC owners. Not all devices currently running Windows 10 are compatible with Windows 11 due to stringent hardware requirements.
If your device isn't compatible with Windows 11, you have several options:
- Buy a new PC that meets Windows 11 requirements (our recommended option for long-term security and performance)
- Sign up for Extended Security Updates (temporary bridge solution - more on that below)
- Switch to Linux as an alternative operating system
- Continue using Windows 10 unprotected (we strongly advise AGAINST this option!)
Whatever you decide, make sure to back up your data! Before making any changes, always back up your important files to ensure nothing gets lost during the transition.
Extended Security Updates For Windows 10 (Temporary Solution Only)
If you haven't made the switch to Windows 11 yet, you can still sign up for Extended Security Updates (ESU) from Microsoft. However, understand that this is a temporary bridge, not a permanent fix. ESU will only be offered until October 13, 2026 – just one year of additional protection.
While ESU provides critical security updates, it doesn't include new features, performance improvements, or the advanced security capabilities built into Windows 11. Think of ESU as buying yourself time to plan your upgrade ... not as a replacement for upgrading.
To enroll in ESU, you have three options:
- Free – if you sync your PC Settings to OneDrive using Windows Backup
- Microsoft Rewards – redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points
- One-time purchase – pay $30 (plus applicable tax)
One ESU license can cover up to 10 devices, making it cost-effective if you have multiple Windows 10 computers.

Important reminder: ESU is only available until October 2026. After that, you'll need to upgrade to Windows 11 or replace your devices anyway. Planning your upgrade now will save you from a rushed decision later.
